Every register is treated as a separate entity. Mint and Tiller are not double entry accounting. But delete one side and see what happens in either software? You'll get a wacked out income or expense amount. It just so happens that the withdrawal from your checking and the payment in the credit card accounts cancel each other out for a net zero amount. But they are independent of each other and really have no correlation. And both have a category of Credit Card Payment. Thus, if you pay your credit card bill, there will be an entry in your checking account and one in your credit card account.both are downloaded. Well, both of those softwares work ok because they don't link transfers. Making sure the transfer name is correctly entered and formatted correctly is one of those situations.

You should be reviewing your transactions for accuracy (and possible fraud) and then making any manual adjustments as necessary.

Don't be fooled that Quicken (or any other financial software) is just download and that's it. There is some review and some editing of categories, at times. Quicken is NOT designed to be put on "auto pilot". It will now post in both registers.īut yes, if you do this AFTER the transaction has been downloaded, you'll get duplicate entries in both registers. If you refuse to manually enter the transaction prior to it downloading to either register, just change the category to use that transfer designation instead. There is no TO or FROM.you DON'T use Credit Card payment.you don't use Citi without the square brackets.Īnd there will be a corresponding FROM transaction in the Citi register. So if I'm paying my Citi credit card bill from my Chase checking account, in the Chase checking register the category field will have as the transfer account.

Then.when the transfer transaction actually clears each bank, it WILL match to both sides of the transaction.Īlso, just for clarity, transfers should be the name of the TO bank enclosed in square brackets.

The simplest way to handle this is to MANUALLY enter the transfer prior to the transfer actually clearing your bank or credit card. And, usually one side of the transfer will appear before the other side appears. Therefore, when you download a transfer, it will NOT have the actual transfer category name entered. Unfortunately, your bank or credit card company has zero idea if a transaction is a transfer or not. Changing one side of a transfer changes the other side too.Īnd.I'm assuming from your comments in this thread that you want to download transactions ONLY.no manual entry. In both, transfers are linked.if you do them correctly. There's a subtle difference between those two version how transfers are handled. You haven't mentioned whether you're using Quicken Windows or Quicken Mac.
